Could Motrl shopping centre be changing? |
Thursday, 27 November 2008 |
A survey of shoppers organised by the Motril Town Hall and funded by the EU, has revealed that most consumers believe a big ‘anchor store’ or official shopping centre is necessary for the town centre. Instead of just being limited to the traditional shops available, they feel that there should be more choice. Also, they feel that the business hours just aren’t long enough.
Perhaps the customer isn’t always right
There has been some outcry from business owners and their representatives in the Association of ‘Comerciantes de Motríl’, in reaction to the findings. Although they would agree that out of their total sales, approximately 75% of their clients are locals and most of the remainder come from Salobreña, so the businesses clearly depend very heavily on local trade.
Although traditionally there has been resistance to longer shopping hours, an increasing number of businesses within the central district of Motríl are opening Saturday afternoons and it turns out that over 15% would be inclined to open on a Sunday as well, particularly clothes and sweet shops.
