A small village inland from Salobrena, Lobres is well known for its food - especially local dishes such as roast goat, gachas colores (a type of oatmeal porridge) and snails! Avocados, Sharon fruit, Cherimoyas and Mangos are also popular and widely cultivated in the region. Aside from its pretty white houses Lobres most notable landmark is its church, la iglesia de San Antonio. The church was built in the 16th Century by Ambrosio de Vico, in the Moorish style. Since then a Renaissance doorway has been added and an 18th Century altar piece in the Baroque style.

In recent years Lobres has also gained publicity for its Bronze Age and Neolithic remains discovered in the Cueva de Capitan (Captains cave) near the village, and now on display in the archeological museum in Granada. Popular with Spanish and foreigners alike Lobres is just 10 minutes from the beach yet retains the old Spanish feel, seen most clearly on 13 June when the village celebrates the Saint Antonio, the patron saint of Lobres. The day is marked by games, concerts and partying. Celebrations also take place 2nd February when the Dia de la Candelaria, is celebrated with a procession, an open air dance and the ever popular breakfast of hot chocolate and churros in the rosario de la aurora. The new motorway which will eventually link the motorway at Nerja to Almeria will pass behind the village and is currently under construction.
