La Herradura and Almuñécar protest
Tuesday, 24 February 2009
Investors and workers in La Herradura and Almuñécar have joined together through the ‘Asociación de Promotores y constructores’ to approach the President of the Junta de Andalucía, Manuel Chaves about the paralysation of building projects within the two areas.

Direct intervention from the Junta de Andalucía

Within the letter the Association has sent, they have asked for direct intervention from Chaves and the central government body itself, in order to counter the stranglehold that the Departments of Public Works, Tourism, Environment, Culture, as well as the Department of Urban Housing are all exercising on any projects that are either in progress or in the pipeline. Even the Association of Hoteliers and Restauranteurs has complained, together with other groups which have felt the knock-on effect in the local service industry. As they pointed out, with some 3000 men and women officially  unemployed, things have reached emergency levels and the economy, with the support of the central government, needs to be sorted out. Inevitably, they feel that the construction industry has to be one of those areas that needs immediate intervention.
