The feast day of San Blas or Saint Blaise as he is known in English is celebrated today. He is known as the saint of sore throats. This is in rememberance of how, whilst on his journey to prison as a persecuted Christian, he healed a child with a fish bone caught in its throat. San Blas is the patron saint of Durcal and it is celebrated with processions, music and fireworks in his honour.
